"24-hour emergency towing" is the single most common claim on wrecker websites, and the fastest way to get one-star reviews is to make that claim and then not pick up. Fill in your real availability — whatever it is, honest hours beat a promise you can't keep when someone is stranded on a shoulder.

If you do police-rotation, private-property impound or other non-consensual towing, your rates, signage, storage fees, notification duties and release procedures are usually set or capped by state or municipal law. Publish your actual authorized rates, and make sure your storage and release policy matches the regulation. This is an area regulators and customers both scrutinize hard, so don't guess and don't copy another company's rate sheet.
What to do while you wait
- Get yourself and your passengers somewhere safe — away from traffic
- Turn on your hazards; if it's safe to do so, set out warning triangles or flares
- Stay out of the roadway, and don't stand behind or in front of the vehicle
- If you're in an unsafe spot on a highway, call 911 — not just a tow truck
